And The Winner Is… (Week 10)

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

It’s finally here. What are we going to do with ourselves now that the iPhone competitions are over? You can make your own minds up, but I know for a fact that some of us in the office will be weeping in the corner and stuffing our faces with cake (of course some will be overjoyed that they no longer have to think of ideas for competitions).

This final week in particular has yielded some astonishingly good entries, and it’s been a typically mind-numbingly hard decision to select a winner. Even if you didn’t win, we sincerely hope you had a lovely time doing whatever it was that you did to prove to us that you wanted that iPhone the most.

For the final time, then, we’re happy to announce that the iPhone winner is Sarah Cank for the amazing songs and videos that she sent us. There is a condition on her victory, however – Sarah, you must never ever sing on record again:

We were also extremely impressed by several other entries we received, in particular Emma Gorman’s begging box, Nicki ‘Knox’ Parsons’ phone-swap idea, and the hilarious video made by Asher Heigham (literally an incredible effort). Well done guys, we’re sorry you couldn’t all win an iPhone.

The beautiful Begging Cake.

That's right, it's two tin cans tied with string.

Everyone, it’s been emotional.

And The Winner Is… (Week 9)

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Cripes, this is the penultimate week, isn’t it?! How has it snuck up so quickly? You’ll be telling me it’s almost Christmas next… wait… what?

Anyway, there was another iPhone that needed getting rid of this week, so got you to show us your special talent, unique to you alone. We had a lot of entries that, though freaky in their nature, could be done by several double-jointed individuals we encountered in daily life, so we made doubly sure that we picked something totally unique. In fact, you wouldn’t be wrong in terming this week’s winner as totally bizarre.

Click here and you’ll see Olly Harrison’s winning entry! Congratulations to Olly on finding a middle ground between Thurston Moore and Mark Knopfler, a furrow yet to be totally ploughed. We’re sure you’ll agree that this is a great effort. Aside from that, it poses all manner of questions: where do all those different objects come from? And is the china plate alright after it was unceremoniously hurled aside?! Olly, we need answers.

Several other great efforts were also made, though, and we thought we’d share a couple of the highlights with you.

We're pretty sure IWOOT has never been immortalised on someone's back before.

This one’s ace – amazing effort from facepaint genius Beverley Duffey.

And if you follow the link you’ll be able to see Sarah Cank (complete with perfect comedy soundtrack) making various parts of her body do various icky things. Another hearty well done indeed.

For those among who still have that insatiable desire for an iPhone, have a look at this week’s competition. All we want you to do is show us just how much you need that iPhone – whoever goes furthest, most creatively wins!

Win An iPhone Week 10 (sob…)

Monday, November 30th, 2009

It’s finally here. Week 10. One more roll of the dice.

We’ve been entertained, affected and not a little bit terrified by the wealth of bizarreness we’ve uncovered on this merry technological odyssey whereby we released 10 iPhones into the wild for your gain, but boy has it been worth it. We’ve started a little community that we hope we can nurture – it’s an area where no one should feel bad for uploading a photo of their cat wearing a bumble bee costume.

But we digress.

The final iPhone competition has a very simple premise – we want you to prove to us that YOU want that iPhone the most. How far would you go? We don’t care how you prove it, but as long as you show us that, for whatever reason, you need that sleek little wizard’s-best-friend in your life. Make a video, write us a letter, bombard us with Tweets, bake us some cake (we like this idea a lot) – just make sure you don’t miss your final chance to win that precious iPhone. Facebook, Twitter, the blog or good old Royal Mail – do what you have to do to get your mitts on it.

So, to recap, the title of the comp this week is “How Much Do You Want An iPhone?”, and we want all entries in by 10AM  Monday, December 7th 2009. Anything received after that will not be counted as an entry. Unless it’s cake.

All the social media outlets are fairly self-explanatory, but some people have requested our postal address:

Creative Department
Unit C11 Parkhall Trading Estate
40 Martell Road
London
SE21 8EN

Good luck!

Win An iPhone Week 9

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Everyone has something unique about them. Even if you think you haven’t, there’s definitely something you can do that someone else can’t, or something that you know that others don’t. Licking your elbow, reciting Pi to a thousand decimal places, juggling bananas… if you can do something, let us know!

This week, in our penultimate iPhone giveaway, we want you to show and tell us exactly what that one thing you can do is, using whatever medium you like. Make a YouTube video (like the one below), take a photo, post on our Facebook wall, inundate us with Tweets or comment on the blog – no matter which way you do it, just tell us what your individual skill is – the most interesting, funny or creative will win that coveted iPhone.

We’re going to leave this week’s brief at that – go mad and show us what you’ve got.

Win An iPhone Week 8

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Can it be that there are only three iPhones left at IWOOT Towers? Well, yes. It can. So if you want to bet the one that makes it two, make sure you get involved in Week 8 – definitely the most cryptic week yet.

We want you to come up with the most ingenious riddle you possibly can and post it on our Facebook wall OR via Twitter. It’s very important that you do not answer it yourself – we want everyone to have a crack at guessing them, and no-one likes a spoil-sport so no giving them away! Entries via Twitter should have @iwootblog in the reply. Hopefully we’ll be able to solve as many as possible (no Googling!), and the most interesting, creative or original one will be sent a lovely new iPhone.

As usual we’ve got an example for you to get started:

What is yours but your friend uses more than you do?

 Well?

Have a think, then head to our Facebook wall and add your own. Who knows, maybe we’ll tell you the answer later in the week. Anyway, same rules apply as ever. One entry per person, an make sure they’re in by Monday 23rd November.

• Closing Date For this competition is 10AM on Monday 23rd November 2009.

Win An iPhone Week 7

Monday, November 9th, 2009

We really do work you hard for your prizes, don’t we? If we’re not demanding that you carve a pumpkin into whatever shape, we’re pummelling your intellectual side for the meaning of life. Week 7 of our iPhone competition is no different – it’s a real interactive challenge.

Now everyone knows that you shouldn’t work with animals or children, but us progressive types here at IWOOT Towers think that’s pure bunkum. Animals in particular are a constant source of smelly, snuggly joy, and we think it’s about time we saluted our furry compadres. We’re not so keen on kids, though. Yuck, always leaving hair everywhere… Anyway, for this week’s competition we want you to dress your pets. That’s right. Dress Your Pets. In any costume you fancy, as long as it’s all your own work and your pet doesn’t mind too much. Perhaps something along the lines of this:

Aw. Get going, pet-lovers! If you haven’t got your own furry (or scaley or feathery) friend to dress up, then simply borrow a friend’s or approach wild animals – not the big ones, mind. We’re thinking pigeons, maybe a squirrel. No polecats or herons, you’ll lose a finger.

Make sure you take a photo, and then submit it to our Facebook wall by Monday November 16th. The most inventive, innovative, funny or plain interesting entry will win, and we’re hoping that this will throw up some of our most bizarre entries yet… it’s down to you, folks.

Competition Terms & Conditions:

• Closing Date For this competition is 10AM on Monday 16th November 2009.
• Sadly, you can only enter this competition once. (You can’t fool us, you know!)

Win An iPhone Week 5

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Last week, you made us laugh no end with your hilarious (and, as always, occasionally bizarre) jokes, but this week we want a totally different effect – we want you to scare us to death (well, maybe not to death… maybe into a light coma will do) by carving the scariest pumpkin you possibly can in an effort to get your hands on one of our iPhones. As usual, thought and effort will triumph, so think about making your pumpkin the most innovative, interesting and original pumpkin you can!

We made an example over the weekend:

Yes, it's sitting on top of my toilet. It was the darkest room in the house.

Works better in the dark.

Surprisingly chirpy, isn’t it? As always, there are a few housekeeping issues to make sure your entries are valid, but they’re not too taxing – you must take a photo of your pumpkin creation and post it on our Facebook wall (in a similar way to our MS Paint and Desktop Sculpture competitions), and you must submit it before 10AM on Monday November 2nd. All the other terms and conditions are below.

I’m now desperately trying to think of a pumpkin/Halloween-related pun to sign off with… Ghoul Luck? Let’s go with that.

Competition Terms & Conditions:

• Closing Date For this competition is 10AM on Monday 2nd November 2009.
• Sadly, you can only enter this competition once. (You can’t fool us, you know!)
• This competition is completely free to enter, no purchase is necessary.

And The Winner Is… (Week 3)

Monday, October 19th, 2009

This week’s MS Paint competition provided us here at IWOOT Towers with much amusement – we’ve spent ages trawling through the entries and deliberating at length whose was the most impressive, interesting or downright amazing, and we’ve finally come to a decision.

Without further ado, we’re pleased to announce that Andrew Taylor is this week’s winner of our iPhone Competition, for his entry below:

Andrew Taylor

We though that Andrew’s entry, though not the most technically impressive, showed the most thought, the most attention to detail and the most fun. Any fans of The IT Crowd (luckily that includes us) will immediately see how crafty this picture is, but we were more impressed by the way Andrew managed to sneak in plethora of IWOOT products and how he drew our blog staff. It’s a little bit scary that it ended up being quite so accurate, actually. We suspect new office security measures could be in order. Nonetheless, we’ve printed it out and stuck it on the wall.

There were so many worthy entries that it’d take forever to mention them all, but we’ve put a few of our favourites below. If you want to check out the whole lot, then visit the photo gallery on our Facebook page while listening to this music.

Sas Taylor

Richard Readley

Win An iPhone Week 4

Monday, October 19th, 2009

The last two of our iPhone competitions have been extremely interactive, and yielded some excellent results (have a look at the Desktop Sculpture entries if you don’t believe us), so this week we’ve decided to take it back to basics. Simply, all we want you to do is tell us your best joke. As always, the best one will win – in this case, the one that makes us laugh the most. Which is pretty reasonable for a joke competition, we think.

A couple of rules and guidelines – all jokes have to be submitted to our Facebook wall by 10AM on Monday October 26th, they can’t be too long (a few lines at the most, ideally) and they can’t be rude or offensive. We’re very sensitive souls, you see. Other than that, go as surreal, as cerebral, as witty, as silly or as ridiculous as you like. And we’ll know if you’ve just copied and pasted – be as original as you possibly can.

Don't even think about entering this one.

Competition Terms & Conditions:

• Closing Date For this competition is 10AM on Monday 26th October 2009.
• Sadly, you can only enter this competition once. (You can’t fool us, you know!)
• This competition is completely free to enter, no purchase is necessary.
• No cash alternative is available for the prize(s) offered.
• This competition is open to residents of the UK only.
• Employees of I Want One of Those and their immediate families and anyone professionally connected with the promotion are not eligible to enter this competition
• The winner will be chosen by the IWOOT team.
• The winner will be notified of their win via the Facebook name submitted on the entry. If a response to this notification is not received within 14 days, IWOOT reserves the right to randomly select another winner. In light of this, please ensure you submit an email address that you use regularly!
• No responsibility will be accepted for entries that are not received.
• From time to time we may include customer comments and feedback on the site, and in our catalogue and other media. By submitting your comment you are granting us permission to publish it and, if necessary, edit it for clarity and typos.

Extreme Communication Rotation

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Readers, a grave injustice has occurred. We demonstrably love the iPhone. A humble but essential gadget, it is the very essence of our modern lives, running through it like a river of relevance, pausing only at the delta of fun applications before rolling out to the sea of technology. In short, any act of violence visited upon an iPhone is an act of violence visited upon us, its humble sympathisers.

Imagine how our faces contorted in agony, then, when someone from Customer Services sent this video through:

(Disclaimer: Any iPhone owners who value them above things like jewellery, pets and family members should steel themselves before pressing play).

Crushing.

Still, if you’ve mangled your iPhone, why not enter our competition to win a nice shiny new one? This inspired psychotic fun comes courtesy of Will It Blend?
